Overview of Homeowners Insurance Policies

Insurance companies usually adopt standardized insurance policies that are created by either the Insurance Services Office ("ISO") or the American Association of Insurance Services. We address the ISO forms on this website.

Eligible Dwellings

A homeowners insurance policy provides coverage for eligible dwellings. An eligible dwelling is one that:
  • Is owned and occupied by you;
  • Is not a residence; and
  • Has one-, two-, three-, four-units
An eligible dwelling cannot be occupied by more than one additional family. Similarly, it cannot be occupied by more than two boarders or roommates.
